NIAID Exploratory Investigations in Food Allergy - Our Principal Investigator, Xiaobin Wang, MD, MPH, ScD, professor of Pediatrics at the Feinberg School, the Mary Ann & J. Milburn Smith Research Professor, and director of the Smith Child Health Research Program of the research center, is a recipient. Her project will study prenatal and genetic factors in relation to the development of food allergy in a cohort of newborns and their mothers. This will be the largest prospective birth cohort study specifically designed to identify prenatal precursors of food allergy in the U.S. The study is built on an ongoing multi-center food allergy project (Children's Memorial Food Allergy Study) led by Wang and Jacqueline Pongracic, MD, which is funded in part by the Food Allergy Project, Inc., Sacks Family Foundation, and Chicago Community Trust.
