Applause for the following junior faculty:
a. Ruchi Gupta, MD, MPH is the recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation career development award (primary mentors: Jane Holl, Xiaobin Wang). She is also the recipient of a seed grant funded through the NUCATS CERC ARCC Program.
b. Rajesh Kumar, MD is the recipient of a NHLBI K23 HL093023 award (primary mentor: Xiaobin Wang).
c. Xin Liu, MD, PhD is the recipient of a Northwestern University/NIH KL2 award (primary mentor: Xiaobin Wang). Dr. Liu is also the PI of a NIAID R21 grant (R21AI087888, pending award).
d. Karen Mestan, MD is the PI of a NHLBI K23 HL093302 grant (primary mentor: Xiaobin Wang, pending award).
e. Kelly Lowry, PhD is the recipient of a Northwestern University/NIH KL2 award (primary mentor, John Lavigne, PhD; secondary mentors, Helen Binns and Katherine Kaufer Christoffel).
The Mary Ann & J. Milburn Smith Child Health Research Program faculty have been active on national and international platforms, including national/international conferences, scientific journal or grant peer-review, committee work, health promotion, advocacy and public policies.
Katherine Kaufer Christoffel, MD, MPH has joined the National Advisory Committee of NICHQ (National Initiative for Child Health Quality, www.nichq.org), to advise on obesity issues. Dr. Christoffel sits on the Mayor’s Pedestrian Advisory Council (after her co-chair term ended), and on the steering committee of the Northwestern Comprehensive Center on Obesity.
Helen Binns, MD, MPH was selected by the Health and Medicine Policy Research Group as a recipient of the HMPRG Recognition award for her research and her contributions to the health of the community. She is the chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Environmental Health and AAP liaison to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Committee. She is a member of the Practice-Based Research Advisory Committee for Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. She is on the executive committee of the Illinois Chapter of AAP, a member of the Illinois Health Information Exchange Advisory Committee and the Illinois Lead Poisoning Prevention Advisory Committee.
Jenifer Cartland, PhD, has been recognized by the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition for her research and her contributions to the health of the Illinois community; and was appointed by the director of the Illinois Public Health Department to the 2011 Illinois State Health Improvement Planning Team.
Xiaobin Wang, MD, MPH, ScD has been appointed as a regular member of an NIH study section. She is a member of the Epigenetics/Genetics/Genomics (EGG) Working Team in the National Children’s Study. Dr. Wang is also on the steering committee of the Northwestern Comprehensive Center on Obesity.
