Center on Obesity Management and Prevention (COMP)
The Center on Obesity Management and Prevention (COMP) at the Children’s Memorial Research Center brings together faculty, clinical staff and others, all working on aspects of childhood overweight. COMP fosters integration across clinical, research, and advocacy initiatives to protect children from the current childhood obesity epidemic. Many clinical units at CMH treat children with overweight and associated health problems. These include clinical programs in Preventive Cardiology, Endocrinology, Hepatology, Kidney Disease, Nutrition Evaluation, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, and Sleep Medicine. COMP’s research effort promotes transdisciplinary study in the community, clinic, and lab. It addresses topics that include the etiologies of overweight and its complications, the effectiveness of approaches for reducing overweight and associated morbidity, and means for primary prevention.
COMP is also the home for the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC).
