Emergency Relief Effort for Haiti Earthquake Survivors

Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine partners with Heartland Alliance on a number of vital community programs In Chicago. Because of our strong partnership, we want to make you aware that Heartland Alliance has established an emergency fund to assist survivors of the devastating January 12th earthquake in Haiti. Heartland Alliance's focus is on three major areas: immediate protection services, short- and long-term psychosocial services, and health care. A Heartland Alliance team will be leaving early next week to participate in on-the-ground assessments and in planning emergency responses with governmental, international, and community groups, and your donation will help these efforts.

Our partnership with Heartland Alliance includes a number of different activities: Feinberg faculty and students volunteer at Heartland Alliance health centers which provide primary care and mental health services for vulnerable groups. Our Department of Family and Community Medicine also has worked collaboratively with Heartland Alliance at two school health centers; Senn High School in Edgewater and Roosevelt High School in Albany Park. In addition, the Staff Relations Committee works with Heartland Alliance on our annual drives to secure much-needed school supplies, coats, and home starter kits.
