Research Interests
My interests focus on deciphering the molecular mechanisms of the tumor suppressor maspin. Maspin was first reported one decade ago as a protein that was down-regulated or absent in aggressive breast carcinomas, but expressed in high levels in normal mammary tissue. Since its discovery, maspin has been characterized by its ability to inhibit invasion and regulate the important processes of apoptosis and angiogenesis. However, the means by which maspin functions is still unclear. By using a yeast two-hybrid system, our lab has identified several proteins with which maspin interacts, and I am currently working to evaluate the methods, regulation, and purposes of these reactions.
